Tax Consultancy

Many tax issues require more than a quick call. To cater for more complex and higher value tax issues we offer a full range of Tax Consultancy. Our expert consultants offer a comprehensive range of services, including written reports, second opinions, attendance at HMRC meetings, reviewing complex transaction documentation, alternative dispute resolution, and litigation support at tax tribunals.

Tax Helpline

Simply call the TaxAction free-phone number - 0800 222 9992. Our highly experienced admin team will ask you for the broad nature of your tax issue and will then refer your call to the consultant best suited to deal with it or, if you prefer, to a particular consultant you would like to use. You will get a call from the consultant and your tax issue will be dealt with.

Do I have to pay a subscription to join the Helpline service?

No: TaxAction never charges a subscription for any of its services. The Helpline rate of just £65 + VAT per unit is available to all accountants, lawyers, and other professional advisers.

Do I have to call premium rate phone numbers?

No: you call the TaxAction free-phone number (0800 222 9992) and then the expert tax consultant calls you back.

How will I know what I am going to be charged?

At the end of any Helpline call, you can ask your TaxAction consultant to agree the amount of time you have been on the phone so we will never fall out over invoices.

What if I have several tax queries - can they be dealt with in the same call?

Yes: if the TaxAction consultant you are speaking with has expert knowledge of all the tax matters you want to talk about. TaxAction wants to make sure that you talk to the right tax expert, so you may need speak to more than one person, which would incur a further charge.

What hours is the Tax Helpline open?

TaxAction has introduced extended switchboard hours (8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.). We recognise the importance of a quick response and will always try to give Helpline advice as soon as possible, usually on the same day.

Tax Consultancy

TaxAction's fees are highly competitive. Our underlying rate of charge starts at as little as £90 + VAT per 15 minute unit or part thereof.

How many units will I be charged for?

Our consultants are always happy to confirm the time that they have spent on your matter. However, TaxAction consultants will, wherever appropriate, offer a guaranteed fixed fee for giving you the tax support you request. This could be a fixed fee for writing a report, researching a particular tax issue for you, designing a share option scheme, or even representing you or your client at ADR or a Tribunal. Of course, if your brief changes then fees will need to be discussed again, but we will always try to offer you certainty over fees.

What about “value billing”?

Some tax problems are so complex, high value, or urgent that a premium fee is appropriate. You might have hundreds of thousands of pounds - or more - riding on a successful outcome to an HMRC dispute or need urgent tax support on a complex or pressing matter. TaxAction consultants will be happy to "drop everything" to help you and will agree an enhanced value-based fee in advance. In some cases a Conditional Fee Arrangement (CFA) may be offered, where a higher additional fee is charged but only where there is a successful outcome. Either way, TaxAction provides specialist tax advice at very competitive rates.

Will TaxAction respect my adviser/client relationship?

Yes: if we are advising you and for any reason need to meet with or speak to your own client, as professional advisers bound by strict codes of professional ethics, we undertake never to undermine your relationship with your client or solicit them.

Can TaxAction provide “white label” written advice?

Yes: there may be times when you want the advice to come from your own firm rather than from a third party, so in these cases we can provide written advice and draft correspondence in a format where you can pass it on under your own firm's name.

When will I get my written answer to a tax problem?

TaxAction understands that timely delivery is important, so wherever possible we will agree a realistic deadline with you. As long as you do not change the brief, your work will be delivered within the agreed deadline.

What happens if I am not happy with the technical quality of advice given?

TaxAction consultants are experts, but if you do have a problem with the technical quality of the advice we provide, we will look into the matter and if we have fallen short of our high standards we will waive the fee completely.

We look forward to hearing from you.  Please contact us at action@taxaction.org.uk if you have any queries.
